Doug Haywood participated in our house concert series on July 31, 1999.

Doug Haywood first came to Hollywood in 1970 as a member of the Capitol recording group, The Goose Creek Symphony. Lack of commercial success with Goose Creek led Doug to tour and record with Bobbie Gentry ("Ode to Billy Joe") until 1972. He has since toured and/or recorded with numerous folk, country and rock dignitaries including Linda Ronstadt, Warren Zevon, Jackson Browne, Eric Andersen, Danny O'Keefe, Elyza Gilkyson, Steve Goodman, Jesse Colin Young, Willie Nelson, Leon Russell, Mary McCaslin, Johney Rivers, Graham Nash, Cher, Thelma Houston, Brewer & Shipley, Bonnie Raitt, The Doobie Brothers, David Lindley, James Taylor, Joni Mitchell, David Crosby, Glen Frey, Don Henley, Carly Simon, George Harrison, Greg Allman, Elton John and many others.

Doug is also a first-rate songwriter. His songs have been recorded by Jennifer Warnes, The Dillards, Juice Newton, Bobbie Gentry, Michael Stanwood, Mason Williams, Jerry Reed, John Hartford, David Lindley and other artists. When Doug's "If It Ain't Love By Now" was recorded by Jim Ed Brown and Helen Cornelious, it soared into Billboard's Top Ten Country chart.

With all of this activity, it wasn't until 1996 that Doug released his first solo album, Nevada. Doug currently lives in Colorado and rarely performs in the Los Angeles area these days. We were very fortunate to be able to host Doug Haywood for a house concert in front of a packed house of about 70 people. Freebo came out and helped provide some bass for a number of songs and even performed one of his own tunes with Doug helping out on bass.

Freebo mentioned that the two of them first met in the early 1970s when Jackson Browne and Bonnie Raitt toured together and Doug was playing bass for Jackson while Freebo was playing bass for Bonnie. Doug provided a wonderful evening of music that left everyone wanting more. The Thousand Oaks Star published a very favorable review of the evening which can be found elsewhere on this Web site.
