Our House Concert with James Lee Stanley was another standing room only house concert and a great success! James Lee Stanley, born into a musical family in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, was already performing and recording for LeGrand Records (home of Gary US Bonds) by the time he was fourteen. He majored in music at Cal State University, did a stint in the Air Force as a Chinese linguist, and was performing up to three hundred dates a year with such people as Bonnie Raitt, Robin Williams, Spyro Gyra or Bill Cosby by the time he landed his second recording contract.
Among the albums he's released are James Lee Stanley, James Lee Stanley, Too and Three's the Charm for RCA, Midnight Radio on MCA, James Lee Stanley for Elektra/Asylum and Racing the Moon for Takoma, and Eclipse for Jollye Roger before recording the LIVE album, which was chosen as one of the TOP 5 RECORDS OF THE YEARS by Music Connection's Guy Aoki and was nominated for a GRAMMY. After the LIVE release, Steven Wright pegged James to be his opening act for the next three years; performing for well over a million people nationwide and garnering for James a solid following of his own.
Since that time, James has released the critically acclaimed, GRAMMY nominated SIMPATICO, which many critics consider the Latin American equivalent of Paul Simon's Graceland; followed by the incredible RIPE FOUR DISTRACTION. You may have heard Stanley's music behind three EMMY AWARD winning CBS-TV CATHY Specials, as he was chosen by Cathy herself to score her work. THE ENVOY, Stanley's tenth release went to #15 in the Adult Contemporary charts and was one of the TOP 100 ALBUMS in AC Airplay for 1993 ( MAC Report). Stanley also released the original soundtrack from the original production of the film, Even Cowgirls Get The Blues.
With the release of DOMINO HARVEST, Stanley reached a level of expertise that allowed him to access, at will, twenty years as a vocalist, composer, musician and producer to create a warm and personal statement that critics called a masterpiece. In addition to the usual Zeitgeist Renegades, the many guests on DOMINO HARVEST include Peter Tork, Timothy B. Schmit, John Jarvis, Scott Breadman, John Ford Coley, Paul Barerre, Corky Siegel & Marc McClure. Artists of this calibre generously contributing to this recording are a testimony to the regard that the entertainment community has for James; a regard that is finally being reflected by radio and the record buying public.
And FREELANCE HUMAN BEING is being met with ever more accolades. FI Magazine called it "a masterpiece, one of the all time greats... and one of the finest recordings we've ever been privileged to hear." They also listed it as THE BEST POP RELEASE OF 1998 and ONE OF THE TOP TWO HUNDRED RECORDINGS OF ALL TIME.
James Lee Stanley is without a doubt one of the great undiscovered singer-songwriters in America. His first-rate guitar playing and exceptional voice are second only to the quality of his songwriting and he was also a regular on Star Trek Deep Space Nine for many years!
We owe a very special thanks to Hillary and Jon Matthew for sponsoring this concert. Hillary and Jon have been attending our house concert series from the very beginning. We greatly appreciate their support of our house concert series. Please be sure to visit the James Lee Stanley Website.
