When ROBERT MORGAN FISHER moved from Texas to Los Angeles, he put his Radio, T.V. and Film Degree to work in various jobs including announcer, production assistant and finally, as a writer. "I'm first and foremost, a writer," says Robert. "I've written everything from screenplays and short stories to radio comedy." If you've ever heard a commercial or song parody on the radio, there's a better than average chance that Robert wrote -- and possibly performed -- it. His fiction has been published in national journals and he's even won a few awards. Robert uses humor to great effect and has been favorably compared to fellow Texans Robert Earl Keen, Guy Clark, Steve Earle and Junior Brown. "But I'm real careful not to fall into the trap of being pigeon-holed as a comedy songwriter," he says. "I respect Dr. Demento, but that's not what I'm about."
Other artists have taken note of Robert's narrative skills. He's collaborated on songs with the late Dr. Timothy Leary and Tangible Records recording artist Darryl Purpose. "The songs I've written with Robert are all home runs," says Purpose, "I close my shows with them." Fisher/Purpose cowrites include: "Ring On My Hand," "Traveler's Code," "Dangerous Game" and "You Must Go Home For Christmas," among others. Their most famous cowrite is "Mr. Schwinn" -- winner of no less than three major songwriting festivals and fast-becoming a contemporary folk classic.
Robert wrote all of the songs on his CD, Follow A Hunch, and, along with the help of co-producer Chad Watson, recorded and released it entirely on his own in early 1996. The record has found its way onto many Americana playlists across the country strictly by word of mouth. An award-winning fiction writer, Robert Morgan Fisher's independent album has garnered considerable critical acclaim.
On Saturday, April 13, 2002, we hosted a wonderful house concert for singer-songwriters Robert Morgan Fisher and Debra Davis. Robert opened the night with a set of his wonderful songs, both witty and poignant. With about 65 people in our audience, he performed a selection of songs from his CD as well as a many new ones. Maybe that means a new CD is coming??? Thanks, Robert, for a great evening!
