On October 10, 1998 we hosted a house concert for JOHN HALL. John is a well known singer, songwriter and activist. He and his wife Johanna have written hit songs for Janis Joplin ("Half Moon"), Bonnie Raitt ("Good Enough"), Linda Ronstadt ("Give One Heart"), Chet Atkins, Steve Wariner ("You Can Dream of Me"), Chaka Khan, and of course John's band Orleans ("Still The One" and "Dance With Me"). His guitar solos have been featured on albums by Jackson Browne, Little Feat, Taj Mahal and others. John was one of the organizers of the No Nukes concerts and John & Johanna's song "Power" became the theme song of the movement with a memorable performance by James Taylor and the Doobie Brothers, and subsequent versions by Peter Seger, Holly Near, and Peter Paul & Mary.
John's 1998 solo CD, Recovered, features stripped down versions of John and Johanna's most famous songs. We highly recommend it!
The 75 people who crowded into our home for John Hall's house concert were treated to a very special evening of great music. The enthusiasm of the crowd was evident as people sang along to the hits and everyone got to help on percussion with hand clapping and "key-shakes"! For a special treat toward the end of the evening, legendary bass player Freebo came up and helped John on a few songs including "Power" (which they played together at No Nukes) and "Good Enough" (Freebo played on Bonnie Raitt's version.)
