Laurence Juber has been playing guitar for close to 40 years, and was the lead guitarist in Paul McCartney's band, Wings, winning a "Best Rock Instrumental" Grammy for the song, "Rockestra". He was featured on the hit singles "Goodnight Tonight" and "Coming Up". However, Laurence, best known to his fans as "LJ", has since established himself as an artist in his own right, and has recently extended his catalog to TEN acoustic guitar instrumental cd's, all featuring his unique fingerstyle technique and extensive use of alternate tunings.
After McCartney folded Wings in 1981, Juber moved to the United States where he met his wife Hope. They settled in the Los Angeles area where he concentrated on raising a family while resuming his studio career. He played on such classic Eighties TV shows as "Happy Days" and "Family Ties". During this time he began working with Hope as musical director, lead guitar and co-producer for her popular comedy rock 'n' roll group "The Housewives." Together they also wrote the score to "Gilligan's Island, The Musical", based on the hit TV show created by Hope's father, Sherwood Schwartz.
Laurence's studio career was flourishing as he worked on countless albums, movies and TV shows with such artists as George Harrison, Ringo Starr, The Monkees, Belinda Carlisle, Air Supply and Paul Williams. His playing was featured on the mega-platinum soundtrack to the movie "Dirty Dancing" as well as such TV favorites as "Roseanne" and "Beverly Hills 90210". On camera, he was featured guitarist on the "Young And The Restless" for six years.
Juber released his first solo album, "Solo Flight" in 1990 which first showcased his fingerstyle guitar work. His next CD, "Naked Guitar" (1993) solidified his reputation among guitar fans and he began touring internationally as a solo concert performer. LJ also teamed up with singer-songwriter Al Stewart ("Year Of The Cat"). They toured as a duo and Laurence produced, and is featured on Al's album, "Between The Wars."
Juber continued to pursue his passion for fingerstyle guitar with the release of "LJ" (1995), which explored altered guitar tunings and ensemble performance. His wife Hope joined on as a producer with "Winter Guitar" (1997), a relationship that has continued through "Mosaic" (1998), "Altered Reality" (1998), "The Collection" (2000), "Different Times" (2001), "Guitarist" (2003) and the best-selling "LJ Plays The Beatles" (2000).
Always continuing with studio work, his playing has been featured on the Oscar-winning scores to "Pocahontas" and "Good Will Hunting", as well as such long-running TV shows as "Home Improvement", "Boy Meets World" and "Seventh Heaven."
Laurence was voted #1 Guitarist by the readers of Fingerstyle Guitar Magazine and was honored by the venerable Martin guitar company with his own 'LJ' signature model, which was recognized with the coveted Editors Pick Award by Guitar Player Magazine.
