Wherever ERIC HANSEN performs, listeners make an immediate connection to this award-winning artist. His powerful, expressive voice breathes life into a room like few artists can. His performance style, intimate and captivating, draws everyone into the "conversation." Hansen's voice has been called schizophrenic; he can move the listeners with sensual romantic ballads, have the place jumpin' with his deep rock-blues groove, or delight audiences of all ages with his whimsical children's songs.
ERIC HANSEN attended Chicago Musical College, where he studied voice, classical guitar, and music theory and composition. He left the conservatory two years later and joined Chicago's Free Street Theater, a traveling performing arts outreach program. "We traveled, even into bad neighborhoods, and we brought theater to people who wouldn't normally go to the theater," he said. Eric spent four years with Free Street, performing, writing songs, and working in schools, hospitals, and communities. He then won a role in "I'm Getting My Act Together and Taking it on the Road," which eventually took him to New York City. There, he pursued a career onstage, worked in touring musicals, did bit parts in soaps - The Guiding Light, Search for Tomorrow, One Life to Live - and did Theatre by the Sea in Portsmouth.
ERIC HANSEN now happily lives in Tucson, AZ. He has won two TAMMIE Awards, from Tucson critics, and a Music to Life award, presented by Noel Paul Stookey. He was named a Kerrville Festival New Folk finalist, and was also a finalist in the Plowshares Songwriting Competition. In 2004, he returned to the Tumbleweed Folk Festival as a judge for its songwriting competition. To date, Eric has recorded five CDs on his own label, Half Moon Full Star Records. His newest CD, A Lover's Lullaby, was released in the summer of 2004.
Our November 13th House Concert was a truly amazing night of music. With more than 100 people crowded into our living room, Eric Hansen and Jeff Black each presented truly wonderful sets of music. Sponsored by 92.7 Lite FM, the evening was one that will be long remembered by everyone here. We were very lucky to be able to get two such talented artists to share the evening... and we hope to bring back both Jeff and Eric at some point in the future.
